House on a Ravine

Toronto

2026

Overlooking one of Toronto’s natural ravines, this 1924 Edwardian home is being re-imagined with modern design touches while maintaining it’s original architectural charm by balancing historic preservation with contemporary interventions. A sculptural steel and wood staircase is centred under a large skylight above, creating a bright and airy interior. At its rear, expansive windows capture the breathtaking views of the ravine, in an extensive addition of wood and metal siding, punctuated with corten metal fins acting as sun shading devices. Below, a large sunken patio provides for quiet relaxation or large family gatherings, accessed through large glass sliding doors, blending the indoors with the surrounding landscape.
